First Deputy State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration[email protected]Date of Birth:12.07.1959 tbilisifamily status: wife and a daughterDavid Dondua was appointed as a First Deputy State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration in October 2012. Prior to his current assignment he was Chief ofCabinet of the Chairman of Parliament of Georgia (2008-2012).David Dondua joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia in 1993 and served as aPolitical Director (2006-2008), Ambassador to NATO (2001-2006), Deputy Chief ofMission at the Embassy to the United States (1998-2000), Director of Department forPolitico-Military Affairs (1996-1998), Deputy head and then Head of NATO Division(1994-1996) and I secretary in the Department for International Organizations (1993-1994).In 1994-1995 as a member of the State Delegation he was engaged in negotiationsbetween Georgia and the Russian Federation on military issues, including the status ofRussian Military Bases stationed in Georgia. In 1995-1998 he also held the position ofthe Executive Secretary of the State Interagency Committee for Co-operation withNATO/PfP. He holds Diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary(Since 2001).Before joining Foreign Service, in 1981-1988 David Dondua worked as an assistantprofessor at the Institute of Geography of the Academy of Sciences of Georgia. Hisresearch area was political and commercial geography of South Caucasus. In 1988-1992he was deputy director and professor of geography and natural history at TbilisiGymnasium. He is an author of textbooks on geography and natural history for primaryand secondary schools of Georgia. He is a member scientific council of GeographicSociety of Georgia. He holds MA from Tbilisi State University in economic and socialgeography (1981).He has contributed to a number of publications on various foreign affairs and securityrelated topics, including: NATO, Conflict resolution, CFE Treaty, National SecurityConcept of Georgia, Black Sea and Caucasus regional cooperation. He is fluent inEnglish and Russian and has conversational French. His hobbies include tennis, golf,jazz, photography, gardening and travel.He was born in 1959 in Tbilisi, Georgia. He is married to Téa who is journalist andprofessor of Georgian language. They have daughter Anna.2013
