TheDanish Institute for International Studies (DIIS)and theDanish Defence Academyhave thepleasure of inviting you to a seminar on:
NATO after the PivotAmerican and European Perspectives on NATO’s FutureFriday, 24 May 2013, 9.00-11.00Danish Institute for International StudiesMain AuditoriumStrandgade 71, ground floor, 1401 Copenhagen KBackgroundThe United States declared in its 2012 Strategic Guidance Document that the United Statesnecessarily would ‘pivot’ towards Asia. Although the administration have since changed the word‘pivot’ to ‘rebalance’, the document has led to intense debate in Europe about what the implicationsfor Europe might be, and especially how a ‘rebalancing’ might influence the future of NATO. Itseems that the move is regarded differently from the two sides of the Atlantic, and Europeanresponses have so far expressed a degree of uncertainty about whether Europe should ‘pivot withthe United States’ or ‘stay at home’ taking on a greater responsibility for security challenges in closeproximity to Europe. The seminar is a joint arrangement between DIIS and the Danish Defence Academy. The threeprominent speakers all have extensive insights on NATO’s future role and strategy, and Americanand European roles in implementing it.SpeakersRobert Dorff,Dean, Kennesaw State UniversityJamie Shea,Deputy Assistant Secretary General, NATOMark Laity,Head of Strategic Communication, SHAPE, NATOTrine Flockhart,Senior Researcher, DIISProgrammeMore details about the seminar are available on ourwebsite.Practical InformationThe seminar will be held inEnglish.Participation isfree of charge, butregistration is required. Please use ouronline registration formno later thanThursday, 23 May 2013 at 12.00 noon. Please await confirmation by e-mail from DIIS for participation.Sincerely,Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS)The Conference SectionStrandgade 56DK-1401 Copenhagen KDenmarkPh.
