Solutions for LifeExecutive SummaryThe World Water Forum is a unique platformwhich brings together citizens, academia,business, NGOs, international organisations,as well as regional and national authoritiesin a search for practical solutions to globaland local challenges.The 8th World Water Forum, to be held inCopenhagen on 13-18 May 2018, aims toaccelerate real solutions that make a di er-ence to people worldwide.Commitments as HostDenmark’s o er to host the 8th World WaterForum has been developed through exten-sive global, regional and local consultationswith key stakeholders. Consultations willcontinue to unfold and engage even morestakeholders in search of re nement andelaboration moving towards 2018.Denmark o ers to host the 8th World WaterForum in Copenhagen:1. With a strong emphasis on linking vitalwater-dependent elds such as energyand food for the development, dissemi-nation and deployment of solutions thatare crucial for sustainable developmentwith a particular focus on the needs ofdeveloping countries.2. On the basis of a Nordic tradition oftransparency and inclusiveness thestrength of the Forum will be in bringingtogether all stakeholders in a solution--oriented process, undertaken in closecollaboration with the World WaterCouncil, the designated Commissionsand Chairpersons of the processes.3. Based on a strong organisational frame-work under the leadership of threeministries within the Danish government,and with a solid national, regional, andglobal anchoring which will be continuallystrengthened as we approach the kick-o .4. In a ci which is safe, where logistics caneasily facilitate success, and where stake-holders can be inspired by innovativeapproaches and practical solutions fromacross the Øresund Region.A Focused ApproachDenmark is committed to engaging in athree-year solution-oriented process, whichbuilds on previous World Water Forums.Identifying solutions was central to theprocess of the 6th World Water Forum inMarseilles in 2012 and implementingsolutions will be the focal point in Daegu in2015. A World Water Forum in Copenhagenwill accelerate the delivery of sustainablesolutions by:Widening the water agendaThe inclusion of water-dependent eldssuch as energy and food will be crucial inthese e orts. Water, food and energy arevital ingredients for life and are inextricablylinked. Long-term success depends on ourabili to implement solutions that addressthese elds in an integrated manner.• Focusing on key challengesThere are many aspects to this agenda,hence a need to focus on those key chal-lenges that make a real di erence. The keychallenges should be identi ed throughinclusive stakeholder consultations and will

form the basis for delivering solutions forsustainable development.• Facilitating connection across sectorsPartnerships across sectors and regions willbe formed around the key challenges withthe aim of accelerating implementation.• Establishing ‘Co-action for Life’ platformsBuilding upon the Solutions Platform inMarseilles and the solutions implementationprocess of Daegu, the ‘Co-action for Life’ plat-forms are virtual and real life tools, which willallow stakeholders to take the collaborativeactions required for distributing and imple-menting solutions, where they are needed.Great Potential for AllDelivering accelerated implementation of sus-tainable water solutions is essential to protecteco-systems and to secure clean water as wellas energy and food for all. This can attract in-vestments and spark continued green growth.The Danish government, private sector,NGOs and researchers are actively engagedin partnerships and close cooperationrelated to identifying solutions to challengesaround the world in close cooperation withlocal, regional and global stakeholders. Thesubstantial Danish track record on water de-velopment projects and common e orts laya strong foundation for continuing the drivefor solutions for life. Danish engagement inpartnerships with developing countries willbe crucial in this respect.Denmark proposes a communication strat-egy that utilises a wide range of media inorder to target stakeholders who contributeto sharing and implementing promisingwater solutions. The outreach programmewill ensure that the wider public is not onlyinformed about the water challenges, butis also engaged as active ambassadors ofsustainable blue solutions.From Local to Global DedicationCopenhagen is internationally recognisedas a friendly, safe, and inspiring conference
destination, and Bella Center o ers one ofthe greenest congress venues in the world.Getting here and getting around is easy,with a well-connected international airportand ci centre within 10 minutes of theconference venue.To host the 8th World Water Forum, Denmarkhas a strong organisation with extensive in-ternational ties. The initiative is strongly an-chored, nationally and locally, within NGOs,business and academia as well as through-out the Nordic region. This collaboration willcontinue to extend globally through existingand new partnerships.The e orts of the Danish government are en-dorsed by the Danish Prime Minister and leadby the Minister for Business and Growth, theMinister for the Environment and the Minis-ter for Development Cooperation.It is our rm belief that the proposed approachcan signi cantly advance the water agendaand accelerate sustainable solutions for life.We hope to prove this in a constructive col-laboration with the World Water Council, andwith the many organisations and stakehold-ers who are dedicated to realising sustaina-ble development around the world.
