What have future generations done for me lately?Making sense of the role of media in shaping awareness and engagementwith climate changeThe University of Copenhagen is pleased toinvite you to a Sustainability Lecture withMax Boykofffrom University of Colorado-Boulder and the author of ‘Who Speaks forthe Climate?’Editor-in-Chief of Politiken Bo Lidegaardwill respond to the talk with Prorector forEducation Lykke Friis as moderator.Mass media serve vital roles in communication pro-cesses between science, policy and the public, andoften stitch together perceptions, intentions, consid-erations, and actions regarding climate change. Manydynamic, contested and complex factors contributeto how media outlets portray climate change science, politics and policy. In his talk, Boykoff will highlight how particular prob-lems and snags in the web of interaction betweenscience, media, policy and the public have contributedto (mis)perceptions, debates, and varied understand-ings – that can be at times detrimental to efforts thatseek to enlarge rather than constrict the spectrum ofpossibility for responses to climate challenges.
