Dear Member of Parliament,In 2012, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria will celebrate its 10thanniversary,and the remarkable results that have been achieved in the fight against these three diseases in theworld’s poorest countries over the past decade. Europe plays a major role in global health and in thefight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria and constitutes the largest donor to the Global Fund,contributing more than half of its resources.To recognize the European commitment to developing countries in the fight against the threediseases, progress achieved during the past 10 years, and the important work done by the GlobalFund and its partners in achieving these results, the Global Fund and Friends of the Global FundEurope are pleased to invite you to celebrate“ADecade of European Support to the Global Fund toFight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria”on 31stJanuary 2012 at Pavillon Gabriel, 5 avenue Gabriel,75008 Paris (FRANCE). We are very pleased to invite you to join us at this ceremony, which will startat 19.00, and we would be very honoured if you would be able to attend. This ceremony will bepreceded by a conference at 16.00 to celebrate 10 years of partnerships with the Global Fund and itis a great pleasure to invite you to attend it as well.The ceremony will bring together European policy makers, representatives of internationalorganisations, as well as participants from the public and private sectors, the research communityand non-governmental organisations.This will be an opportunity to think back to 2002, when the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosisand Malaria was created under the auspices of the United Nations, with the support of several of theworld’s richest countries, including France. Since then, the innovative model of the Global Fund hasdramatically transformed the governance of global health and, given the results achieved so far,there is real hope that the health-related Millennium Development Goals will be achieved in 2015.We strongly thank you for your support to the Global Fund at the occasion of its 10thanniversary.Yours sincerely,
