The Commission and the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EuropeanUnion are organising a conference in Copenhagen on 24-25 May 2012 on finan-cing and organising large transport infrastructure projects.In the decades to come, the volume of traffic is expected to increase in Europe.Accordingly, there will be a need for investments in infrastructure and trans-port systems in order to meet the increased demand for carriage of passengersand goods. However, these investments are to be financed. The question re-mains how to finance these investments.When choosing the financing scheme for a particular project, the available pub-lic budgets, the ability and willingness of the users to pay etc. must be takeninto account. Today, different models are applied among the EU memberstates.In Denmark the state guarantee model have been successfully applied. Themodel is used to finance the fixed links across the Great Belt and the Øresundand it will also be used to finance the fixed link across the Fehmarn Belt.With the aim of exchanging information about the different financing modelsused and the experience gained, the Commission and the Danish Presidency ofthe Council of the European Union invite you to participate in this infrastruc-ture financing conference in Copenhagen.
