We cando betterMaintenance treatment for heroin addiction wasoriginally conceived of as a comprehensive treatmentconsisting of a combination of medication and psycho-social interventions: focus was on drug counseling andmedical, psychiatric and socioeconomic problems.In the Nordic countries, we have now over 40 years experience of maintenance treatment, with a highvariation of treatment protocols, as research find-ings have been implemented differently in differentcultural settings
