Committee for Ethnic and Religious Affairs of theNational Committee of the Chinese People’s PoliticalConsultative Conference
The Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC) is a Chinese People’s patriotic untied frontorganization. It is an important institution of multipartycooperation and political consultation led by the CPC. It is animportant way to promote socialist democracy in China’spolitical activities. With extensive organizational representationand the great political inclusiveness, it consists of representativefigures those are divided into 34 circles from all parties, massorganizations, 56 ethnic groups and five major religious groups.
As one of the nine subcommittees of the CPPCC, theSubcommittee for Ethnic and Religious Affairs is the specialinstitution to carry out work on ethnics and religions whosemain functions include: keeping in touch with its members and
representatives from ethnic and religious groups and listening toand reporting on their views and suggestions; organizing itsmembers to review the implementation of the ethnic andreligious policies of the state, carrying out research on majorethnic and religious issues, and putting forward ideas andsuggestions. There are 89 members of the Subcommittee forEthnic and Religious Affairs of the 11thNational Committee ofthe CPPPCC, including 41 from ethnic groups and 29 fromreligious groups.
