DANIDA and the UNEP Risø Centrewould like to invite you to a workshop onSustainable Energy for All: Powering Africa24 September 2012, 9.00 to 16:00Eigtveds Pakhus, Copenhagen
Background:UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has launched a global initiative on Sustainable Energy forAll to mobilize action from all sectors of society in support of three interlinked objectives to be achieved by2030: providing universal access to modern energy services; doubling the global rate of improvement inenergy efficiency; and doubling the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix.The United Nations General Assembly declared 2012 the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All,recognizing that “…access to modern affordable energy services in developing countries is essential for theachievement of the internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals,and sustainable development, which would help to reduce poverty and to improve the conditions andstandard of living for the majority of the world’s population.”Green Growth is one of 4 overall priority areas in the new strategy for Denmark’s development cooperation -The Right to a Better Life. Enhanced access to sustainable energy is one of the key focus areas in relation toGreen Growth. The workshop discussions are expected to contribute concrete ideas on how best toimplement the ambitions embedded in the new strategy.This workshopwill bring together international speakers and members of the Danish energy, technology,finance and development community to discuss past experiences, present status and future efforts toenhance access to sustainable energy and how Danida best can contribute to these efforts on the basis ofthe new development strategy. The focus will mainly be on enhanced access to electricity in Africa, butdiscussions will also enable sharing experience from other regions.Registration:Participation is free of charge but you are asked to register online athttp://forms.dtu.dk/unep/Energy4all_registration.aspby 20 September at the latest.
