Dear Colleagues,
On 1 July 2011, Poland assumed the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Theparliamentary dimension of the Presidency will be implemented jointly by the Sejm of the Republic ofPoland and the Senate of the Republic of Poland, so traditionally both Chambers will jointly host themeetings of sectoral committee chairs. These meetings provide an excellent forum for sharing viewson many current issues related to the functioning of the European Union.Therefore, we have the honour of inviting you to the Conference of Foreign Affairs CommitteesChairs of Parliaments of EU Members States (COFACC), which will be held on 4-6 September 2011in Warsaw in the Sejm and Senate buildings.Our meeting will begin in the afternoon of Sunday, 4 September, with an address by the HighRepresentative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Lady Catherine Ashton.After the presentation of the Polish Presidency priorities and discussion on the situation in NorthAfrica and the future of the COFACC, the programme of the meeting will also focus on a debate onthe Eastern Policy and Europe's obligations in this regard. The representatives of Eastern Partnershipcountries are also invited to attend that part of the Conference. We are convinced that theirpresence will enrich our debate with a direct message inspired by our eastern partners’ experienceof cooperation with the European Union.Draft programme and general information on the conference are enclosed hereto.
