Brief CV for Brian Atwood, Chair of the OECD Development Assistance Committee

Brian Atwood assumed the Chairmanship of the Development Assistance Committee on 1January 2011.Atwood served from 1993 to 1999 as Administrator of the U.S. Agency for InternationalDevelopment (USAID) during the Administration of President William Clinton. In theClinton Administration, Atwood led the transition team at the State Department and wasUnder Secretary of State for Management prior to his appointment as head of USAID.During the Carter Administration Atwood served as Assistant Secretary of State forCongressional Relations. He was Dean of Professional Studies and Academic Affairs atthe Foreign Service Institute in 1981‐82.From 2002 until 2010, Atwood served as Dean of the Hubert Humphrey Institute of PublicAffairs at the University of Minnesota. Other prior positions include President and ChiefExecutive Officer of Citizens International (1999-2002) and founding President of theNational Democratic Institute of International Affairs (NDI, 1985-1993). In 2001, he servedon UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's Panel on Peace Operations.Atwood joined the Foreign Service in 1966 and served in the American Embassies in Coted'Ivoire and Spain. He served as legislative advisor for foreign and defense policy toSenator Thomas F. Eagleton (D'Mo) from 1972 to 1977.Atwood received the Secretary of State's Distinguished Service Award in 1999.
