of March, 2 – 4 pm,where we are proud to present the Vice President of SustainableDevelopment in the World Bank,Inger Andersen.Together with a panel consisting ofKatherine Richardson,Tony Simons, Bruce CampbellandIb Petersen,she will debate some of the challenges for a sustainablefuture.The World Bank’s mission is to help developing countries achieve poverty reduction through programs andpolicies that support inclusive and sustainable development. Inger Andersen has overall responsibility forthe World Bank’s work in agriculture, climate change, the environment, energy, transport, urbandevelopment, social development, and water supply and sanitation. The Bank’s active lending portfolio insustainable development currently stands at approximately US$105 billion. In other words, Inger Andersenhas a considerable influence concerning how we can have a more sustainable development globally. Withher lecture: "Greeningdevelopment: Moving towards Rio+20 and beyond"she will give us some insightsinto her and the World Bank’s strategies for obtaining a greener future.Prior to joining the World Bank, Inger Andersen worked at the United Nations in New York from 1987 to1999 in a variety of positions, including managing projects addressing global environmental concerns,international waters, and renewable energy/climate change. She has extensive overseas experience,notably in Sudan where she worked from 1983 to 1987, including three years with a non-governmentalorganization. Since July 2010, she has been Chair of the Consultative Group on International AgriculturalResearch (CGIAR) Fund Council. We are sure that Inger Andersen will use her extensive experience to giveus a most interesting lecture.Inger Andersens lecture is scheduled for approximately 20 minutes and will be followed by a panel debatewith the following panelists:----Vice Dean and professorKatherine Richardson,University of CopenhagenDeputy Director GeneralTony Simons,World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF)DirectorBruce Campbell, Climate Change Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) andState Secretary for Development Policy,Ib Petersen,Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Each panelist will have five minutes for an intervention after which the wider audience will have theopportunity to take part in the debate. University of Copenhagen will host a reception after the debate.Copenhagen Sustainability Lectures 2011is a lecture series aiming to create attention and visibilityof the challenges of global sustainability. Danish and foreign speakers will visit University ofCopenhagen to focus on a broad array of topics concerned with sustainability, pass on theirexperiences, and give their opinions on how to approach the challenges we are facing now and inthe future.
