Connie Hedegaard: The EU's role in the Climate Change NegotiationsSustainability Science Centre and EURECO (European Research at the University of Copenhagen) are pleasedto present a lecture followed by debate with the current EU Climate Commissioner and former ministerConnie Hedegaard on Friday 11 March at 09:30-10:55 am. Hedegaard will give the lecture ”The EU's role inthe Climate Change Negotiations", which will focus on the role of the EU in a global sustainabledevelopment.Connie Hedegaard is responsible for negotiating climate action on behalf of the EU. Consequently she has acentral role in ensuring that greenhouse gas emissions are reduced on the global scale. Thus we could notwish for a more competent and engaged speaker regarding the EU in international climate politics, and thenegotiations that shape them.Connie Hedegaard is an important person when it comes to ensuring that the EU lives up to its targets ofreducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20%, reducing energy consumption by 20%, and ensuring that 20%of the EU’s energy is derived from renewable sources. Furthermore, she has had an impressive career duringwhich she has concerned herself with sustainability, such as in her role as Minister of Climate and Energy(2007-2009) and Minister of the Environment (2004-2007) in Denmark. In other words, we can no doubt expect a noteworthy lecture by a competent speaker who has a centralposition in regards to sustainable development in the EU and globally. Sustainability Science Center andEURECO are proud to welcome Connie Hedegaard and we are looking forward to an informative lecture anda stimulating debate.
