Mr Jens KirkChairDanish Parliament Energy Policy CommitteeFolketinget, Christiansborg1240 KĂ˜benhavn KDanmarkWednesday 19 January 2011
Dear Mr. Kirk,Please find attached to this covering note a letter from the Scottish Minister forEnvironment and Climate Change, Ms. Roseanna Cunningham MSP. The letter waswritten to provide evidence to the Danish Energy Policy Committee hearing on the UKClimate Change Act which was scheduled for this week, on Friday 21 January, although I now understand this has had to be cancelled. As you may well be aware, following a strong public campaign the Scottish Parliamentunanimously passed its Climate Change Act in the summer of 2009. It provides astatutory framework that is driving the necessary policy transition to deliver emissionsreductions of at least 42% below 1990 levels by 2020 and at least 80% by 2050.I hope that you and the Danish Energy Policy Committee will find the attached letter ofinterest and that the Scottish example will soon be matched by an equally ambitiousDanish Climate Change Act that puts Denmark firmly on track to a fossil free energysystem.Kind regards,
