Dear colleague,It is our pleasure to invite you to the international conference:‘Monitoringmechanisms in the fight against human trafficking’.The conference willtake place on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Dutch NationalRapporteur on Trafficking in Human Beings and follows on from last year’sseminar on human trafficking hosted by the Home Affairs Committee of theBritish House of Commons.Monitoring mechanisms, like national rapporteurs on trafficking in humanbeings or equivalent mechanisms and parliamentarians, are essential elementsin the fight against human trafficking. Exchanging best practices andstrengthening networks are important instruments in the effort to combathuman trafficking and to protect victims from the human rights violationsconcerned more effectively. The main objective of this joint venture betweenthe Dutch National Rapporteur on Trafficking in Human Beings and theStanding Committee on Justice of the Dutch House of Representatives is toassess the contribution of monitoring mechanisms during the past decade andidentify how their impact can be improved in the future. The conference will take place over two days, with different objectives and indifferent settings.- On the first day -Thursday 14 October- national rapporteurs orequivalent mechanisms and parliamentarians of the EU-member states aswell as representatives of several international organisations are invited. The main objective of this meeting is to recognise and address thechallenges monitoring mechanisms encounter and to brainstorm on
