Cher collégue, Chére collégue,2010 est une année significative pour l'égalité des genres. Au niveau mondial, est prévue larevision aprés 15 ans de mise en æuvre de la Déclaration et de la Plate-forme d'action de Pékin.Au niveau de FUnion Européenne la violence est reconnue comme étant une violation des droitsde Fhomme et des instruments politiques sont en cours de revision et pour étre améliorés afin demieux cibler la violence. Dans plusieurs Etats membres de nouveaux instruments sont crées pouroffrir aux femmes une meilleure protection. Le Conseil de FEurope travaille également sur uneconvention cadre qui reprend les formes les plus sévéres et les plus répandues de violences contreles femmes en Europe.Pour la célébration de la "Joumée Internationale de la Femme", le Parlement Européen entendréunir les parlementaires aussi bien européens que nationaux de nos commissionscorrespondantes. Le théme de cette année est la violence contre les femmes. Je crois qu'å l'aide decontributions directes venant des parlementaires nationaux, nous pouvons faciliter le processus decréation d'un environnement politique et juridique visant å eliminer la violence contre les femmes.Notre reunion sera ouverte par le Président du Parlement européen, M. Jerzy BUZEK. MmeBibiana AIDO ALMAGRO, Ministre espagnole pour l'Egalité des Genres (å confirmer), MmeMara CARFAGNA, Ministre italienne pour l'Egalité des chances et Mme Inés ALBERDI,Directrice exécutive du Fonds de développement des Nations Unies pour la femme (UNIFEM)prendront également la parole lors de cette reunion.Les représentants des parlements des 27 Etats membres, des pays candidats et du Conseil del'Europe sont également invités å y participer. Dear Colleague,2010 is a significant year for gender equality. At the global level the 15-year review of theimplementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action will take place. AtEuropean Union level violence is recognised as a human rights violation and many policyinstruments are currently being revised and can be improved to target violence. In severalMeniber States new tools are being created lo offer women greater protection. In addition,the Council of Europe is working on a framework convention covering the severest andmost widespread forms of violence against women in Europe.The European Parliament will celebrate this year's International Women's Day with anevent which will bring together European and national parliamentarians from ourcorresponding committees. The theme for this year is violence against women. I believe thatthrough direct contributions from national parliamentarians we can facilitate the process ofcreating a political and legal environment in which violence against women is eliminated.Our meeting will be opened by the President of European Parliament, Mr Jerzy BUZEK.Ms Bibiana AIDO ALMAGRO, Minister for Gender Equality of Spain (tbc), Ms MaraCARFAGNA, Minister for Equal Opportunities of Italy and Ms Inés ALBERDI, ExecutiveDirector of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) will address themeeting.Representatives of Parliaments in the 27 EU Member States, candidate countries and theCouncil of Europe are invited to attend. I would be very honoured if a delegation of twoMembers (or four Members from bicameral legislatures) from your Parliament could attendthis event on Tuesday, 16 March 2010 from 9h00 to 12h30 in the hemicycle of theEuropean Parliament in Brussels.
