CPA UK is delighted to announce that it will hold its 3rd International Parliamentary Conference on Climate Change(IPCCC) Global to Local: Climate Change Post-Copenhagen from Monday 12 – Friday 16 July 2010 at thePark PlazaWestminster Bridge Hotel.Some 200 delegates and observers from Commonwealth and other legislatures will attend,and I should like to invite your Parliament to apply for up tofourplaces at the Conference. Please note that thisConference will be conducted in Englishonly.CPA (Commonwealth Parliamentary Association) is a professional international association of parliamentarians with amembership of 17,000 spread through the national, state and provincial legislatures of the Commonwealth. CPA UK isone of 175 branches with 800 members from both Houses of Parliament, working for parliamentary democracy. CPAUK achieves its mission through a combined programme of parliamentary diplomacy and international parliamentarystrengthening work from Westminster. The vehicles for this work include conferences, seminars, workshops atWestminster and partner parliaments, and parliamentary visits. CPA UK Conferences are key in bringing togetherparliamentarians from across the world to engage with each other on strategies to better represent the needs of theirconstituents and to better scrutinise and hold their executives/governments to account on global issues. ThisConference follows two hugely successful International Conferences in July 2009 and November 2007.
Theaim of the Conferenceisto support parliamentarians in contributing to, and in holding their executives to accounton, the formulation and implementation of climate change policy at local, national and international levels.The Conference will include discussion sessions, debates and workshops exploring how parliamentarians can act nowon climate change. It will highlight the urgency of embracing the challenge and help to develop ideas and facilitate thesharing of practical approaches to dealing with this universally impactful issue.
ApplicationsYour Parliament is invited to apply for up tofourplaces at the Conference. Your bid should reachCPA UK byFriday 16 April 2010on the enclosed reply form. On receipt of applications a formal invitation will beissued confirming the number of delegates invited. As we expect the IPCCC to be oversubscribed you are encouragedto send in your bid as soon as possible. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
DelegatesYour delegates will be expected to arrive for the start of the programme (pm Monday 12 July) andparticipate fully through to its conclusion (noon Friday 16 July). Your Parliament should therefore nominate onlydelegates prepared to attend the entire programme.
Costs
During the Conference your Parliament will be responsible for:
Booking and paying for delegate accommodation.The official Conference hotel is the Park PlazaWestminster Bridge Hotel (+44 (0)844 415 6790 /www.parkplaza.com/hotels/gbwestmi),and a rate of£150.00 per person per night has been negotiated for all Conference delegates. This rate includes Englishbreakfast.Paying a Conference fee.A day delegate rate of£65per day (x3) will be charged which will cover dailyconference costs, including lunch. The fee will be invoiced before the event.Travel to and from the UKTravel to and from the UK point of arrival and the London hotelAll meals (less3 x lunches included in the Conference fee and breakfast included in the hotel room rate)Personal expenses during the Seminar period (laundry, telephone, room service, mini-bars, DVDs, etc)
Accompanied Persons
No provision will be made for spouses and children at the Conference.
