This is the third public hearing in thismandate period. FEMM has adopted two initiative re-ports focusing on women in Turkey with Emine Bozkurt(PSE) as Rapporteur. State Minister of Women's andChildren's Affairs in Turkey, Nimet Çubuk§u, has beeninvited. Other speakers are Yakin Ertürk, UN SpecialRapporteur on Violence against women, Yeşim Arat,Bogazixi University, Istanbul, and Nebahat Akko§, Presi-dent of Ka-mer.

Maternity leave directiveFEMM will vote the 136 amendments to the pro-posed Directive on maternity leave. These amend-ments show the FEMM Members' wish to furtherimprove the Commission's proposal in a way toguarantee an optimal situation for mothers and chil-dren, including possibilities for both mothers and fa-thers to reconcile work, private and family life. Manyamendments aim to guarantee an income equivalentto full salary during maternity leave and to adaptmother working patterns to the family situation.Adoption in committee: 16 AprilAdoption in plenary: May
