Budapest, the 21 st of September 2009 .Karin NedgaardChairwomanCultural Affairs CommitteeFolketingDenmark
Dear Ms ChairwomanThe Sports and Tourism Committee of the National Assembly of Hungary is committed to discussissues related to International Sport as a high priority, enabling our members to understand keydevelopments in the world of sports and if needed to support all necessary steps to encourage ahealthier, fairer and more equal condition for Sport .In the last months international sport leaders and senor representatives of the IOC and FIFA visitedHungary with whom we had the opportunity to discuss the most pressing issues of the SportsWorld . One of the key topics for our discussions was how to safeguard and preserve the autonomyof sport and how we can ensure it's specificity within major international integrations, morespecifically within the European Union which deals primarily with economic issues .We are of the opinion, that the direct and non-critical application of the general rules governingeconomic activity and employment in the area of sport endanger the maintenance of the nationalcharacter of sport and hinders the position and future of grassroots programs . It seems necessary toadopt such a regulation which would enable that more young players and young talents should havea role in the national leagues and championships .Our negotiations led to our belief, that it would be highly beneficial to discuss the above issues in awide circle and to organize a Conference involving high level representation from all EU MemberStates and from International Sports Organizations . This would seem timely especially after theIrish referendum with an emphasis to the circumstances around the Lisbon Treaty .
