SUBJECT: Council Regulation (EC) No 1/2005. Protection of animals during their transport and the related operations.. Infringement of the Council Regulation (EC) no.1/2005, during the transport of breeding cattle animals from Denmark to Greece.
Dear Sirs,
A. 1) We notify the results of the control sent to our Service by the head of the Directorate of Veterinary of the Prefectural Authority in Xanthi ,where the holding belongs and where the alive breeding cattle animals (heifers) were transported from Denmark.
During on the spot check carried out by an official veterinarian, within the framework of article 27 of the Council Regulation (EC) n.1/2005, failures and irregularities were ascertained, with the following results:
-  the transported animals had signs of suffering with symptoms of fatigue and a strong desire for water,
- In some of them,bearing the following numbers of ear tags, dyspnoea and salivation appeared as well as tendency for laying down and rest and refusing to get up

- the verification of the death in one of them, with ear tag number DK-018315-01994, which had been trampled by the rest of the animals
2) The following information set out, concern the transportation data of the 32 transported heifers:

Total number of transported animals: 32 (thirty two).
3) The main findings, in addition to these referred to the paragraph 1) of the present document, which verify the unsuitable conditions of the animals’ transportation, are the following:
-the air circulation was not good mainly in the movable part of the containers with a very strong smell of ammonia.
-there was a great amount of animal faeces mixed with straw indicating that none of the animal  had been unloading and no vehicle clearance had been taken place.
-from the accompanying documents the itinerary plan was absent and there was no evidence that the animals had been unloaded remaining without food and water  although their departure was in 24/05/2007 at 8,30 and their arrival at the holding of destination in 28/05/2007 at 9,30.
The drivers, under their statement, spend their night in Hungary at a hotel from 25 to 26/05/2007 and the animals were not unloaded.
4) Moreover the following are attached:
- a copy of the no.INTRA.DK.2007. 0012515-V4 health certificate (3 sheets) issued at the 24/05/2007 (for 8 heifers),
- a copy of the no.INTRA.DK.2007. 0012513-V3 health certificate (3 sheets) issued at the 24/05/2007 (for 24 heifers),
- a list of code numbers of the individual marking (1 sheet) and the 32 transported breeding cattle animals.
B) We kindly request, in the frames of the “mutual contributionâ€, and of article 26 of the Council Regulation (EC) no. 1/2005, to inform the competent authority of Denmark  taking the proper measures and to inform us properly.
    We are at their disposal, for any further clarification,
