Dear Sir,
It is my great pleasure to inform you that the Federal Government of Brazil will be sponsoring an “International Conference on Biofuels: biofuels – drive towards sustainable developmentâ€, to be held in São Paulo from November 17 to 21, 2008.
The Summit will focus on Brazilian pioneer experience in this field and on fostering a dialogue on the challenges and opportunities presented by biofuels as a source of renewable energy. Another objective is to address the concerns on biofuel sustainability, with emphasis on its impact on the three different areas of sustainable development: economic, social and environmental.
As part of the Conference program, a “Parliamentarian Panel†will be held on November 19, 2008, at 6:30 pm, coordinated by Senator João Tenório, Chairman of the Federal Senate Standing Committee on Biofuels, to address issues related to biofuels, specifically concerning legislation on the theme. Five parliamentarians are scheduled to speak, representing the several regions in the world with either an established or a building/developing biofuel market.
In the capacity of President of the National Congress I am honored to invite you and a delegation from this illustrious Parliament, composed of three members at the most, to attend the “Parliamentarian Panel†and take part in the discussions open to all participants immediately after the speeches. I wish to inform you that, in addition to the delegation that you may appoint, I have already extended an invitation to members of this Parliament that have deep knowledge of and high familiarity with the issue.
Please note that all expenses pertaining to travel and lodging will be the responsibility of each individual participant or delegation.
The participation of a delegation of your Congress will be extremely valuable to the success of the discussions on this issue of universal relevance. All logistics, such as venue, registration, hotels, and conference tentative program will be informed on a later date.
