Dear John,

I hope that you are well and that we will see each other at the IPU meeting in Geneva in October. I am writing to you on behalf of the Nordic IPU Delegations. The Nordic Delegations met in Sweden on 18-19 September 2008 and discussed, among other things, ways to improve the work of the IPU and the 12+. We would hereby like to bring up a few matters that could be discussed with the other 12+ delegations at our meeting in Geneva.

-         The General debate would be improved if there was an electronic Speaker’s list including who’s the next Speaker.

-         The three Committees should have a written Speaker’s list (was not the case in all committees in Cape Town).

-         Changes made in the final version of the resolutions should clearly be marked and distributed in advance (not at the start of the meeting).

-         When deciding 12+ candidates to the drafting committees a comprehensive approach is necessary in order to ensure that seats are fairly distributed between the countries and the sexes.

I look forward to hearing your and other 12+ members’ views on these matters in Geneva.

Yours sincerely,

Inger René

Chair of the Swedish IPU Delegation
