The Honorable

Parliament of Denmark

Dear Colleague,

It is my pleasure to invite you to join a small gathering of parliamentarians, along with board members of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank (PNoWB), for a dialogue on development and poverty reduction at the occasion of the 2007 Annual Meetings of the Word Bank and IMF from October 19-22, 2007 in Washington, DC.

Throughout the weekend the World Bank and PNoWB will be co-hosting a series of interactive and informal meetings with World Bank leadership. In addition to these discussions, we will also have the opportunity to participate in the program of seminars and civil society programs taking place during the Annual Meetings and provide you with an overview of PNoWB’s role as a vehicle for engagement by parliamentarians with the World Bank.

This is an important time in the history of the World Bank given its new leadership, the debate surrounding aid effectiveness, and the changing architecture of aid. Also, with the International Development Association (IDA) replenishment effort moving forward, dialogue with World Bank officials will provide parliamentarians the opportunity to assess the contributions and outcomes of on-going poverty reduction and development efforts.

For those new to PNoWB, we are an independent association bringing together some 800 MPs from 110 countries to promote the parliamentary voice in the development debate.  The World Bank, owned and governed by 184 countries, is the world’s largest external financier of development programs.

I hope you will be able to join us in Washington for this unique opportunity for parliamentary engagement with the World Bank.

Sincerely,

Betty McCollum, Member of United States Congress

Chair, PNoWB
