To the Foreign Affairs Committees of
Denmark, Finland, Iceland,
Norway and Sweden
Copenhagen, 15 June 2007
Dear friends,
The Nordic offices of UNDP, UNFPA and WFP and the Nordic National Committees of UNICEF are addressing the foreign affairs committees of the five Nordic countries.
One of the objectives of the UN-organizations present in the Nordic countries is to enhance the relationship between UN and the national parliaments.
Over the past three years we have successfully conducted field visits for you to Zambia (2004), Malawi (2006) and Mozambique (2007) and according to the participants all field visits showed to be a valuable way of understanding the work of United Nations in the field.
We are therefore very pleased to invite representative of the Nordics Parliaments to participate in the 2008 United Nations Development Group (UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA and WFP) organized field visit. The destination of the 2008 field visit will be Nicaragua and take place from the 14th to the 18th of January 2008 (excluding travel time).
We would very much appreciate reaction from each of the Nordic foreign affairs committees with an indication of your interests in participating, and if so an identification of representatives and if possible alternate representatives as well. In order not to operate with a very large group we suggest that each of the committees limit their participation to two persons.
Please direct your responses to the respective national focal points:
Sweden – Monica Lorensson, +46854523250, [email protected]
Norway - Line Hegna, + 4723060829, [email protected]
Iceland - Mikael Bjerrum, +4535467130, mikael.bjerrum@wfp.dk
Denmark - Asger Ryhl, +4535467033, asger.ryhl@unfpa.dk
We are looking forward to your reactions.
Yours sincerely,
