Dear Colleague,

Thank you very much for your prompt and informative response in your letter of 20 March 2007 concerning fertility treatment.

As I understand the state of law in your country, you have no upper age limit for women seeking fertility treatment. Nevertheless, you have guidelines stating that the clinics have a responsibility to assess the welfare of the child before they can provide treatment to the woman in question, and that this assessment includes different elements - among them the question, whether the parents are able to care for the child due to health problems associated with age.

I have noted that you are in no position to comment further on the Danish case.

Yours sincerely,
