Invitation to join the Group of Friends of the Special
Representative on Gender Issues
To Heads of Delegations
At the Winter Meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, I invited all
colleagues, women and men, to join my informal network which I call the `Group of
Friends of the Special Representative on Gender Issues'.
I need the co-operation from as many Members as possible. Among my ideas for the
future is organizing a series of seminars on Gender Issues in parliaments of member
States. During the Winter Meeting, I already got an invitation to visit the
Azerbaijani Milli Mejlis. If this is followed by more invitations, which I hope will
be the case, you can easily understand that we need to be more people involved in
such exercises.
I am also thinking of a possible side event prior to the summer Annual Session in
Kiev. One of the ideas I have is to illustrate what the implementation of the `UN
Resolution 1325 — Women in Conflict' means in real life. Do we have good
examples to share? I am sure concrete examples will help others understand what
gender equality is all about. Discussion of examples and our experiences will help
demonstrate that it is a question of relevant representation and of democratic power
sharing and at the same time efficiency in work and reliability in results.
So I kindly ask you to talk with the Members of your Delegation and decide who
could join the network.
have all the addresses and telephone numbers we need to contact the person you
choose for this important work.
Yours sincerely,
