Dansk stemmeforklaring afgivet 15. december 2023 under FN’s
Generalforsamlings særsamling efter afstemning om resolution om
Palæstina den 12. december 2023 (A/ES-10/L.27).
Denmark is deeply concerned about the humanitarian situation in Gaza. The
international community has a responsibility to prevent a collapse in the
humanitarian system and to avert a humanitarian catastrophe. On this
background Denmark voted yes to the resolution before us.
We would have preferred a text which unequivocally condemns Hamas’
heinous terrorist attack on Israel on 7 October 2023 and which calls for the
immediate and unconditional release of all hostages taken by Hamas.
We also wish to underline that we understand the call for a humanitarian
ceasefire to be a call for temporary measures to allow humanitarian needs to be
met. As such, a humanitarian ceasefire does not deny Israel the right to defend
itself, in accordance with international law, including international
humanitarian law.
